The Bunkie Cabin, Manitoulin Island

Completed Spring 2019 - Solo Project

Perspective of Living Room

Located on Manitoulin Island, the project is a conceptual design of a lake-house vacation property for an adventurous, active, and recently retired couple. The colors and textural finishes take inspiration from the colors of Lake Huron and the surrounding rock formations, allowing the interior to reflect what is seen beyond the windows throughout the home.

The design presents spaces that are reminiscent of a treehouse as well as the inside of a sailboat, a theme influenced by the activities the couple enjoys. Antique furnishings are integrated alongside modern and playful upgrades to create a whimsical yet sophisticated space for the owners, their pets, family, and friends.

Designed with ADA guidelines in mind, the cabin features an open concept arrangement for the kitchen, dining, and living room as well as a primary bedroom, a guest bedroom, two bathrooms, a mud room, a guest alcove, a screened-in patio, and a large deck with a wheelchair accessible ramp to accommodate the couple and any seasonal guests they will host.
